TMetal was proud to take part in the 9th HI-AM Conference in Banff (June 22–23) — not just on the exhibition floor, but on the technical program.
Together with our partners at the University of Toronto, our joint work was presented on the superior friction and wear performance of a laser-DED cobalt-based 706 coating at elevated temperature — a study built on TMetal’s TMP706 powder. Seeing our alloy development validated through independent, peer-presented research is exactly the kind of collaboration we exist for. And there’s more coming: several joint publications with our university partners are on the way.
We supply powders and application expertise to research programs at the University of Toronto, the University of Victoria, and partner institutes across Canada — many of whom we were glad to stand beside in Banff. That’s our standing offer to the research community: benchmarked, fully characterized feedstock — cobalt, nickel, and tungsten-carbide systems, qualified to ASTM and ISO standards — plus application support, for labs working across DED, LPBF, PTA, laser cladding, and HVOF. Carrying the Deloro Stellite metallurgical lineage means we take the science as seriously as the supply.
The conversations in Banff also confirmed where our attention stays fixed: energy generation, oil & gas, and aerospace & defence, alongside Canada’s critical materials agenda, where we recently completed a submission to NRCan’s critical materials program. And the conference panel on AM, AI, and automation echoed a priority of our own — we’re actively developing AI applications in process optimization and alloy development.
HI-AM also brought the world to the Rockies. We left with new collaboration threads reaching Germany, Italy, and Singapore — a reminder that the best work in this field is built across borders.
Thank you to the organizers at the University of Waterloo and the University of Alberta, to the presenters of our joint work, and to everyone who visited our booth. The publications are coming — watch this space.
